Description

Nautilus is a marine mollusc and is one of the oldest fossilised sea creatures. The original Greek meaning of the word is ‘to sail’. The Nautilus shell presents one of the best natural examples of a logarithmic spiral, otherwise known as a ‘Golden Spiral’ formed within the ‘Golden Section’. The marble has been shaped using discutters and chisels, polished to expose the marine fossils within the stone and the body of the shell textured with a ‘sparrow-pecked’ finish
